Why is Google So Important to SEO?

This blog spends a lot of time and space discussing updates to Google’s search engine algorithm. Some readers have responded that they think we spend too much effort analyzing Google, and could better spend our efforts in other areas of internet marketing.

So why do we spend so much time focusing on Google? Simply put, Google is the undisputed king of the internet. Some estimates have them in control of 80% of all searches. That means 4 times as many users rely on Google than all other search engines combined. 4 out of 5 users choose Google, the same amount of dentists who recommend chewing Trident.

Helping Small Businesses Find Clients Online

Focusing on Google allows us to cast the widest net. If Trimark only focused on Google, there would still be a more successful conversion rate than with any other search function, such as Bing, Yahoo!, or Facebook.

We still put the time into appeasing Google’s competitors, but spending time to analyze them is like betting on the Cleveland Browns to win the Super Bowl: a waste of money.

Focusing on Google might seem lazy, but it is actually a productive use of resources that requires a solid foundation. Google is so advanced that tricks and shortcuts will not fool them; you need to put in the effort from the ground up to be successful.

Since most people search with Google, we try to rise in their rankings through writing solid content, maximizing meta-data efficiency, building simple to navigate websites, and not taking shortcuts. This equates to far more customers than sending out tweets every four hours.

In summary, we target Google because that’s where the money is at and the research pays off for our clients in the long run.
